What is a phone number QR code?

A phone number QR code lets anyone dial your number by scanning it with their phone camera, instead of typing it in. The moment the code is scanned, the device shows a "Call" prompt and connects in one tap.

It builds a standard tel: link that iOS, Android, and most modern camera apps understand natively. Your number is encoded directly into the image and never sent anywhere, so it is safe to print and share on ads, signs, and business cards.

How to create one

  1. 1
    Select the Phone type

Click the Phone tile at the top of the generator. The form switches to a single phone-number field.

  2. 2
    Enter your phone number

Type the full number including the country code, for example +1 555 123 4567. No spaces or dashes are needed.

  3. 3
    Customize the look

Optionally change colors, dot style, or add a logo. Keep contrast high so phones can read the code.

  4. 4
    Preview live

The code updates instantly as you type, so you can confirm it looks right.

  5. 5
    Download and share

Export as PNG for printing or SVG for crisp resizing. Place it where people can see and scan it.

When to use it

Customer support

Let customers call your support line from a receipt, package, or desk sign without typing the number.

Ads and flyers

Add a scannable number to print ads so prospects call the moment they see your offer.

Business cards

Give contacts a one-tap way to call you straight from a printed card.

Signage and storefronts

Display the code on a window or counter so visitors can call with a single scan.

Printing and scanning tips

  • Always include the country code so international scanners reach the right number.
  • Print at least 2 × 2 cm so phone cameras can focus on the small dots.
  • Use dark dots on a light background — black on white scans most reliably.
  • Keep a clear white margin (quiet zone) around the code, at least four modules wide.
  • Test by scanning with your own phone to confirm the call prompt appears with the right number.

Frequently asked questions

Does it call the number automatically?

No. Scanning opens a call prompt for the person to confirm. Nothing is dialed without their tap.

Do I need the country code?

Yes. Include it so the number works for international scanners, for example +1 for the US or +44 for the UK.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. The tel: format is supported by both platforms and opens the phone dialer.

Is my phone number visible in the code?

Yes, it is encoded into the image. Only share the code where you are comfortable being called.

Does the code expire?

No. As long as your phone number stays active, the code keeps prompting a call forever.

Can it work for toll-free or shortcode numbers?

Yes. Enter the number as you would dial it, including any toll-free prefix or shortcode.
