What is a URL QR code?

A URL QR code sends anyone who scans it straight to a web page. Instead of typing a long or complicated link, people just point their phone camera and tap the notification to open the site.

This is the most common QR code type, used for everything from product packaging to event posters. The link is encoded directly into the image as a static code, so it never expires and never routes through a tracking server — your visitors go straight to the destination.

How to create one

  1. 1
    Choose the URL type

The URL tile is selected by default. If you switched away, click it again.

  2. 2
    Paste your link

Enter a full web address starting with https:// or http://. Double-check it loads correctly first.

  3. 3
    Customize

Change the colors, dot style, or add a center logo to match your brand.

  4. 4
    Check the preview

The live preview updates as you work, so you can see the final code before downloading.

  5. 5
    Download and deploy

Export PNG for everyday printing or SVG when you need to scale the code up sharply.

When to use it

Print and packaging

Send customers from a box or label to a product page, manual, or warranty registration.

Flyers and posters

Let people open an event signup, menu, or landing page without typing a URL.

Business cards

Link straight to your portfolio, LinkedIn, or online store from a printed card.

Retail and signage

Direct shoppers to reviews, a digital catalog, or a contactless ordering page.

Printing and scanning tips

  • Always test the link in a browser before generating — a typo in the URL is baked into the code.
  • Prefer https:// links; some phones warn on or block plain http:// destinations.
  • Use a short, clean URL when possible — shorter links make simpler, more scannable codes.
  • Print at least 2 × 2 cm and keep a white quiet zone around the code.
  • For dark packaging, print the code on a white sticker rather than reversing colors.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change where the QR code points after printing it?

No. A static URL code is fixed once downloaded. If the destination changes, you need a new code. Plan your link before printing in bulk.

Do these URL codes expire?

No. The code itself never expires. The website it links to must stay online for the code to keep working.

Can I track how many people scan it?

Static codes do not route through our servers, so we cannot count scans. Use a link shortener with analytics on the destination URL if you need scan counts.

Will it work with a very long URL?

Yes, but long URLs create denser codes. Shorten the link with a URL shortener for a cleaner, easier-to-scan code.

Does it open in the phone's browser?

Yes. Scanning opens the default browser and loads the page directly.

Can I link to a PDF or file?

Yes, as long as the file has a public web URL starting with https://. Paste that URL and generate the code.
